Play Google Drive Music on iPhone
Trove Pro lets you select music from Google Drive and play it on iPhone while compatible files download. It keeps a bounded cache on your device and leaves your cloud originals unchanged. This is available in the released 2.3.1 app; Google Drive support arrived in 2.0. A Google account, permission to download the selected files and a working connection are required.
Select and play your songs
- Install Trove and unlock Pro, or restore your existing purchase. Open Google Drive under Network Sources (on iPhone, look in More).
- Choose Add Songs. Complete Google’s sign-in and file-selection flow, selecting audio you have permission to download. Trove requests
drive.fileaccess to selected files, not permission to browse your entire Drive. - Return to Added Songs and tap a song. Watch the buffering indicator; playback can begin before the full download when the file supports it.
- Use Add Songs or + to add more selections. Remove from Trove removes a selection from the list without deleting the Google Drive original.
Which formats play while downloading?
Compatible files can use progressive playback. FLAC is supported, but a file extension alone does not guarantee an immediate start: the file layout, decoder, permissions and connection all matter.
In the released source, APE, OGG/OGA, Opus, WMA, DSF/DFF, WavPack, TTA and MPC use the complete-download decoding path. Other files can also fall back to a complete download when the progressive decoder cannot open them. Expect buffering rather than instant starts or unrestricted seeking for every file.
Cache is not a permanent offline library
Complete Google Drive songs use an on-device cache capped at 1 GiB. Older entries are removed as space is needed; files larger than the cache budget are not retained there. Closing the app does not itself deliberately clear complete cached songs, but retention is not guaranteed. Reopening a cloud song can require online metadata and permission checks even when audio bytes are cached.
For a trip without a connection, download the audio with your provider’s supported export workflow, then import it into Trove’s local library through Files. Before leaving, disconnect the network and test playback from that local library. Neither a saved Drive selection nor a buffering indicator proves offline readiness. See the local FLAC guide and the NAS guide for the distinction between local files and remote sources.
Manage access and storage
Open Trove’s Google Drive screen and choose Clear Google Drive Cache to remove cached audio on this device; this stops Drive playback but keeps your connection and cloud originals. Disconnect Google Drive removes Trove’s selected-song list and temporary audio and attempts to revoke Google access. If revocation cannot complete, follow the app’s Manage Google Access instructions. Credentials are stored in the device Keychain. Details are in the app privacy policy.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pro a subscription? No. Pro is a one-time purchase. Check your regional App Store for the current price; your Google service may have its own storage or transfer limits. The pricing section explains Trove’s tiers.
Does Trove edit or delete my Drive files? No. Selecting, playing, clearing the cache or removing a selection in Trove does not rewrite the cloud originals.
What about MEGA? MEGA is also a Pro source, with account sign-in, folder browsing, compatible progressive playback and a separate bounded cache. Its service quotas still apply; see cloud features.
Is this the same as Wi-Fi transfer? No. Wi-Fi transfer imports audio from another device into the local library. Drive playback accesses selected cloud files. Neither automatically synchronizes all your music between devices.

Try Trove on your own library
Trove plays FLAC, ALAC, APE and DSD on Mac, iPhone and iPad. With Pro, those devices can browse a NAS over WebDAV or SMB. Apple Watch plays transferred songs offline, not from the NAS. Free to download; Pro is one $9.99 purchase across your devices.
