Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Trove Player — formats, platforms, pricing and privacy.
What is Trove Player?
Trove Player is a native local music player for macOS and iOS. It plays audio files you own — including FLAC, ALAC, APE and DSD — from your device, or streamed from a WebDAV or SMB server such as a NAS, with gapless playback, a 10-band equalizer and word-by-word synced lyrics.
How much does Trove Player cost?
Trove Player is free to use. Advanced features are unlocked with a single one-time Pro purchase — there is no subscription and no recurring fee.
Which platforms does Trove Player support?
Trove Player runs natively on macOS 14 or later and iOS 17 or later. It is built with SwiftUI for both platforms, so it feels at home on the Mac desktop as well as on iPhone.
Which audio formats does Trove Player play?
Natively: MP3, AAC, ALAC (m4a), WAV, AIFF, CAF and FLAC. Through built-in extended decoding: APE, OGG, OPUS, WMA, DSD (DSF/DFF), WavPack, TTA and Musepack.
Can Trove stream music from my NAS or home server?
Yes. Trove connects directly to WebDAV and SMB shares, so you can browse and play a library stored on a Synology or other NAS, a home server, or any WebDAV-compatible storage — without uploading your collection to a third-party cloud.
How is Trove different from Swinsian or foobar2000?
Swinsian is macOS-only and has seen few updates in recent years; foobar2000's Mac version lacks the component ecosystem that makes it powerful on Windows. Trove is actively developed, runs natively on both Mac and iPhone, and adds synced lyrics, a 10-band EQ and WebDAV/SMB streaming out of the box.
Is my music and data private?
Yes. Trove is local-first: your files never pass through our servers, there is no account to create, and the app does not track your listening. Your library index stays on your device.
When can I get Trove Player?
Trove Player is in active development, with macOS and iOS builds already running. Join the waitlist on this page and we will email you when the public release is available.
